Description:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), using state funding, is proposing to overlay 0.2’ rubberized hot mix asphalt-gap graded (RHMA-G) from edge of pavement to edge of pavement with digouts at localized areas. The project will overlay approximately 6 miles of SR 299 in Trinity County from PM 64.0 to 70.0. Additional work includes upgrading approximately 8,000 linear feet of metal beam guardrail (MBGR) to midwestern guardrail system (MGS), replace approximately 3,500 linear feet of existing dike, and repair unsound structural concrete on Grass Valley Creek Bridge (#05-0010). One culvert, located at PM 69.19, will be repaired by moving the inlet approximately 20 feet south, closer to the highway, and placing a pipe riser inlet. Two gates will be installed (approximately PM 65.75 and 65.91) near Grass Valley Creek Bridge (#05-0010) to limit access. Traffic control will use the one way reversing methodology with no detours. Fuels management will include removal of ladder fuels and trees that are hazardous, having structural defects that would likely fail in whole or in part, within Caltrans Right of Way (ROW), excluding areas within 150 feet of waterways and drainages, areas with steep slopes, and areas with critical species habitat.
