Description:

The N.C. Department of Transportation and the S.C. Department of Transportation are planning to extend Carolina Bays Parkway (S.C. 31) from S.C. 9 in Horry County, South Carolina, across the North Carolina state line to U.S. 17 in Brunswick County.

The project is expected to involve the construction of a multi-lane expressway and might involve existing roadways and areas on new locations. The primary purpose of the project is to improve the transportation network in the study area by enhancing traffic flow and connectivity for traffic moving in and through the area.

The extension would provide a more direct and efficient movement of traffic seeking to bypass congestion within the areas of Calabash in North Carolina as well as Little River and the Grand Strand areas in South Carolina. As a result, local and tourist traffic on area roadways would experience less congestion and delays.
