Description:

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) published in the Federal Register on February 27, 2020, a Notice to advise the public that FRA is rescinding the Notice of Intent (NOI) for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Dallas – Fort Worth Core Express - Passenger Service from Dallas to Fort Worth. FRA is rescinding the NOI for this project’s EIS due to project scope changes proposed by the State sponsor.

This new service project primarily benefits Core Express passenger rail. The project is located primarily in new transportation ROW and extends for 10-50 miles. The project will create new intercity passenger rail service connecting Dallas and Fort Worth, while providing a key linkage to the existing and developing Texas high-performance passenger rail system.  Specifically, the project will provide a link between the proposed high-speed rail service between Dallas and Houston on the east end and passenger rail services linking Oklahoma City and South Texas metropolitan areas via the Metroplex.

FRA approved the alternative analysis in June 2017. The NEPA process is currently on hold until additional funding is identified.

Using comments and information received during the scoping process, the initial alternative alignments will be reviewed and refined to develop the alternatives to be evaluated in detail in the Draft EIS. The Draft EIS will also include evaluation of a No Build Alternative.

Following refinement of the alternatives, technical studies will be conducted and the Draft EIS will be prepared and is anticipated to be completed in November 2019.

TxDot has information about the project and the scoping meetings on their Dallas/Fort Worth Core Express Service website.

Texas also has information on their Commission for High-Speed Rail in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Region website.
