Description:
This project proposes to create a new transportation corridor between the City of Yakima and the community of Terrace Heights. As the population of Terrace Heights has grown rapidly in recent years and the population is projected to continue increasing, an additional corridor is necessary to provide an alternative crossing of the Yakima River. The Yakima River is a significant barrier to transportation between these two areas and currently the only direct crossing from downtown Yakima is the Yakima Avenue/Terrace Heights Drive route, approximately 0.6 miles south of the project area.
The logical termini for this project are the 1st Street and H Street intersection in the City of Yakima and east of the Roza Canal Wasteway #2 in the Terrace Heights neighborhood, where it will connect to Yakima County's easternmost phase of the corridor. The project will include a 3 to 4- lane roadway, an underpass to cross Interstate 82 (1-82), a bridge over the Yakima River, a bridge over the Roza Canal Wasteway #2, a shared-use path, sidewalks, curbing, gutters, and illumination.
