Description:

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transporation Authority (LAMCTA) proposes to extend the existing Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension from the Atlantic Station terminus in an easternly direction by 6.9 to 9.5 miles. The light rail extension currently has two build alternatives that include the SR 60 North Side Design Variation which terminates in the City of South El Monte and the Washington Boulevard alternative which terminates in the City of Whittier. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement was completed on 8/12/14 with a 60-day public comment period that ended on 10/21/14. Based upon the public comments received from stakeholders and project cities, there was strong support for both alternatives. Comments received from Cooperating and Public Agencies expressed a need to conduct additional technical studies in order to provide the additional detail necessary to address comments in their area of expertise and jurisdiction. These technical studies are currently under way. Once the technical studies are completed, a timeline for the Final Environmental Impact Statement will be determined.
