Description:

The purpose of the project is to address the state's No. 1 priority red-list bridge, the Hampton Harbor Bridge which carries NH Route 1A over Hampton Harbor Inlet in Hampton Beach, NH. The bridge is considered a vital transportation link in the region, accommodating up to 18,000 vehicles per day during peak periods, but the bridge is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. The project also proposes to improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility. The existing bridge is one of only two historic Bascule Lift Bridges remaining in NH and, currently accommodates maritime navigational traffic. As a result, close coordination with resource agencies and project stakeholders in completing the Section 106, Section 4(f) and US Coast Guard Permit reviews will be necessary. Build Alternatives to be considered currently include bridge rehabilitation, replacement-in-kind or replacement with a fixed span bridge structure.
