Description:

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 12, in cooperation with the
Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), proposes to improve the local interchange at
Interstate 605 (I-605) and Katella Avenue. The project is located within the limits of the City of
Los Alamitos, in Orange County, on I-605 from PM 1.1 to 1.6. The I-605/Katella Avenue
Interchange is located approximately 1.3 miles north of the I-405/I-605 junction, and
approximately 5 miles south of State Route 91 (SR-91). Within the vicinity of the proposed
project, I-605 has four general purpose lanes in each direction and one high occupancy vehicle
(HOV) lane in each direction. From the I-405 interchange to Katella Avenue, there is an auxiliary
lane in each direction and a sound barrier along the northbound right shoulder. The purpose of
the proposed project is to improve interchange traffic operations, and improve pedestrian and
bicycle facilities within the project limits.
