Description:
The scope of the proposed project would include widening Inspiration Road, widening Military Parkway, and a new outfall. The project would also include the realignment of three intersections and a section of the Mission Hike and Bike Trail.
The proposed project would require a total of 39 acres of new ROW:
7.7 acres for Inspiration Road, 9.6 acres for Military Parkway, 19.7 acres for the proposed outfall, and 2.0 acres for the county road. It is anticipated one business would be relocated and no residences would be relocated. Inspiration Road would be widened to a four-lane urban facility within a proposed variable 80-200-foot-wide ROW.
The section from I-2 to just south of 1 Mile South Rd. would consist of:
- Two 11-foot-wide travel lanes,
- Two 14-foot-wide shared-use lanes for bicycles and automobiles,
- A 12-foot-wide continuous left turn lane, and
- Five-foot wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
- Within a proposed 80-foot-wide ROW.
Inspiration Road, from 1 Mile South Road to Carioca Dr., southeast of Bentsen
Palm Community Park is proposed to be a four-lane urban roadway. This section of roadway would consist of:
- Four 12-foot-wide travel lanes,
- Two 10-foot-wide shoulders,
- A 16-foot-wide continuous left turn lane,
- 6-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
- Within a 120-foot-wide proposed ROW
From 0.3 miles north of Military Parkway to Military Parkway, the proposed roadway does not include a 16-foot-wide left turn lane. The section of Inspiration Road, from Carioca Dr. to 0.3 miles north of Military Parkway, would be a four-lane urban roadway consisting of:
- Four 12-foot-wide travel lanes,
- Two 10-foot-wide shoulders,
- An 18-foot-wide raised, grass median,
- 6-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
- Within a proposed 120-140-foot-wide ROW
Military Parkway would be widened north of the levee to an 84-foot-wide roadway consisting of:
- Four 12-foot-wide travel lanes,
- Two 10-foot wide shoulders,
- A 16-foot-wide continuous left turn lane, and
- Six-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
- Within a proposed 120-foot-wide ROW.
Approximately 0.3 miles of incidental construction within existing ROW would be required on Military Parkway west of Inspiration Road for a roadway transition. Drainage for the entire loop would be provided by an underground storm drain system. The loop is being designed for 45 mph. The proposed project would include construction of an outfall on new location to drain storm water run-off from the roadway within the project limits. The outfall would be located approximately 0.3 miles northeast of the Inspiration Rd./Military Parkway intersection and extends north for approximately 0.8 miles to connect to the existing Mission Inlet. The proposed outfall would be 170 feet-wide within a proposed 200-foot-wide ROW. A total of 19.7 acres of new ROW would be required. The existing drainage ditches would be cleaned and dredged of debris for approximately 1,000 feet as needed. The proposed project would include three intersection realignments and widen one existing intersection to improve safety. The intersection of Inspiration Rd. and Military Pkwy. would be realigned to provide a direct north-south T-intersection, eliminating the existing curves. The proposed ROW for this intersection improvement is part of the total proposed ROW for Inspiration Road (7.7 acres). The existing curved section of Inspiration Road would be obliterated. County Road 2791, south of the Inspiration/Military Parkway intersection, would be realigned approximately 454-feet west of its current location to eliminate the existing curve. A total of 2.03 acres of new ROW would be required. Old Military Highway would be realigned 0.3 miles west of its current location for approximately 0.2 miles to the southeast. The road would be within an existing 80-foot-wide ROW and no new ROW would be required.
