Description:

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes the South Madera 6 lane project. The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion by increasing capacity, improving connectivity of the highway system, and preserving acceptable facility operation of State Route 99 in Madera County. This segment of freeway currently operates at level of service “D” and will operate at level of service “F” by 2020 without improvements. The project would widen the existing 4-lane facility to a 6-lane freeway between post miles R1.7 and R7.5. There are 3 build alternatives and the no-build alternative under consideration. All build alternatives would include the construction of a new California Highway Patrol weigh station on the southbound side of the freeway.
