Description:
The project is approximately 17.42 miles long, limited access highway from the mainland beginning at SH 100, across the Laguna Madre, to South Padre Island on PR 100 in Cameron County, Texas. Highway improvements will be made along Buena Vista Drive, SH 100 and FM 510 with a new intersection design proposed at Buena Vista Dr and FM 510. A new proposed alignment east of Buena Vista Drive and FM 510 intersection would be located between Holly Beach Road to the south and Schafer Road to the North, bridging across the Laguna Madre, including over the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway for approximately 7.58 miles of the 17.42 miles, landing approximately 1.56 miles south of Beach Access #6 on PR 100 on South Padre Island. Improvements are also proposed on PR 100 from 0.5 miles South of Beach Access #6 to 0.05 miles South of Orca Circle/Beach Access #2. Texas Mainland (S to N) at SH 100 at Buena Vista a two-lane roundabout with 3 legs W, N, and E, along with truck apron is proposed. At Buena Vista South to North a four-lane, two lanes in each direction (NB/SB), center 16ft-wide median, 12ft outside shoulders, with drainage. FM 510 at Buena Vista (S to N) roundabout #2, a two-lane roundabout with 3 legs N, E, and S, along with truck apron is being proposed. At Buena Vista Drive and FM 510 roundabout #3 with 4 legs N, S, E, W with truck apron is being proposed. A new location roadway moving east from FM 510/Buena Vista Drive to the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge (LANWR) a 15-foot ROW, 82 foot four 12ft lanes, two 12ft outside shoulders until the LANWR property boundary where a new bridge (86 ft) is being proposed. Bridge has 42” barriers on both sides. Over the Laguna Madre, a new location bridge with four 12ft lanes, 2 in each direction (EB/WB) within 86ft deck, 4ft inside shoulders separated center concrete barrier, 12ft outside shoulders, 10ft outside buffers, 106ft ROW for 10.4 miles of the 17.42 miles is being proposed. On South Padre Island connection at PR 100 (Ocean Blvd) coming from the bridge, roundabout #4 at grade with counterclockwise movement at the landing and PR 100 with 3 legs N, W, and South with truck apron is being proposed. PR 100 would then tie into existing facility for 88 ft, four 12ft lanes, 16ft concrete median, two 10ft shoulders within the existing 200ft ROW with 2 additional travel lanes, Northbound and Southbound is proposed.
