Description:

The proposed project would reconstruct US 290, from south of FM 389, approximately 0.39 miles north through the interchange with SH 36. The divided northbound and southbound SH 36 travel lanes, two lanes in each direction, would be slightly re-aligned to accommodate the new US 290 interchange configuration and would directly connect to US 290 main lane traffic via entrance and exit ramps.  The divided travel lanes in each direction consist of two 12-foot lanes with 4-foot inside and 10-foot outside shoulders.  SH 36 would also connect to BUS 290 via entrance and exit ramps. Further west to the intersection of CR 49 to a freeway consisting of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction and 12-foot inside and outside shoulders, which can be utilized as evacuation lanes. Frontage roads in this area would typically include two 12-foot lanes with 2-foot inside and outside curb offsets. A 12-foot shared use path would be 8-feet from the back of frontage road curb. Two divided 12-foot lanes, with 4-foot inside shoulders and 10 ft outside shoulders would provide direct connectivity to SH 36 to the north. The project would implement open ditch drainage.

A new one-way frontage road would be constructed for the segment between Westwood Lane. and Sunset Road. This frontage road would terminate at Sunset Road and provides an entrance ramp to the US 290 main lanes. Additionally, on the south side of the reconstructed main lanes, an exit ramp for Westwood Lane would be built. To facilitate access to properties within the ramp limits, a back street road would connect with an intersection when the new, eastbound frontage road. This back street road ensures that property owners do not become landlocked. Previously, these properties had access to the US 290 main lanes, but post construction they are within the limits of the exit ramp, which prohibits driveway connections as per the State’s access policies.

US 290, from Sunset Road to CR 49, would be reconstructed into a four-lane divided highway with 12-foot travel lanes, 12-foot interior shoulders, 12-foot exterior shoulders, a 10-foot buffer, and a 12-foot sidewalk for the westbound lanes. Eastbound lanes would be reconstructed to four 12-foot lanes with 4-foot interior and exterior shoulders. Directions of travel would be separated by at 172-foot grassy median.

The project would construct new bridges at the US 290 direct connect at SH 36 which allows the main lane traffic in both directions to flow unobstructed, Southbound SH 36 frontage roads, and Westwood Lane. The Old Mill Creek Bridge would be reconstructed for the US 290/SH36 underpass, and the BU-290 would be reconstructed for the SH 36 underpass. The US 290 and SH 36 corridors would provide 18.5-feet vertical clearance for freight traffic. The anticipated depth of impact for these bridges is approximately 100 ft.

Approximately 75.56 acres of proposed right-of-way would be required for the proposed project.
