Description:

The Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) in coordination with Amtrak is proposing to expand and modernize Washington Union Station, the National Capital Region’s principal intermodal transportation hub. The purpose of the Washington Union Station Expansion Project (the Project) is to support current and future long‐term growth in rail service and operational needs; achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and emergency egress requirements; facilitate intermodal travel; provide a positive customer experience; enhance integration with the adjacent businesses, neighborhoods, and planned land uses; sustain the Station’s economic viability; and support continued preservation and use of the historic station building. The Project is needed to improve rail capacity, reliability, safety, efficiency, accessibility, and security, for both current and future long‐term railroad operations at this historic station.

FRA encourages and anticipates public participation throughout the development and evaluation of the Project.  The FRA website will be updated periodically with project milestones, information about additional public meetings, and other pertinent project information. Comments may be submitted by email to info@wusstationexpansion.com. Thank you for your interest and participation in this important transportation project.

In addition, pertinent information can be found at the project's FRA webpage,
