Description:

FAST-41 coverage has been cancelled. EPA granted the State of Louisiana primary enforcement responsibility or "primacy" for implementing a Class VI UIC program on February 5, 2024. Accordingly, Louisiana is now the UIC permitting authority, and there is no longer an EPA federal environmental review or authorization required for this project.

Project Background

The Central Louisiana Regional Carbon Storage Hub – Vernon Parish One Carbon Capture and Sequestration Site Project (project) is a proposed CO2 geologic storage sequestration project located in Vernon Parish, Louisiana near the town of Leesville.  The project will consist of multiple injection and monitoring wells beneath private lands.

The injection capacity is expected to grow from 2.0 million metric tonnes (MMTPA) in 2024 to 5 MMTPA in 2027 and 7 MMTPA in 2029.  The project is anticipated to last for 20 to 25 years and will cumulatively sequester approximately 140 million metric tonnes of CO2 over the life of the project.
