Description:

The Fort Mojave Solar Project proposes to construct a 332 megawatt solar generating facility on 2,800 acres of tribal lands on the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation (Reservation) in Mohave County, Arizona and Clark County, Nevada. The solar generating facility consists of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and associated equipment such as power inventers and transformers, a 34.5 kilovolt (kV) collection system, a substation, an operations and maintenance building with parking, meteorology towers and security fencing and lighting.

The project proposes to connect to the existing 500 kV Mohave Switchyard located near the town of Laughlin, Nevada. In addition, the project entails constructing an 18-mile, 230 kV single or multiple circuit long transmission line, which shall connect to a new substation and ultimately the 500 kV Mohave Switchyard. A right-of-way across federal public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Las Vegas Office, is necessary to link the facility and transmission line on the Reservation with an existing substation and transmission line outside of the Reservation. The project expects to take approximately 24 to 32 months for construction.

The project is currently on hold and environmental document and review activities have been suspended.

02/21/2017 - Project Manager received official word from First Solar on Feb 21st that the proposed Fort Mojave Solar Project has been terminated due to economic considerations plus feasibility issues related to the tribe, which resulted in a dissolution of the agreement between the Fort Mojave Tribe and First Solar for this particular project.
