Description:

The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA), Cameron County and in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation-Pharr District (TxDOT), is proposing to construct a new overweight Truck Corridor from IH-69E near the Veterans International Port of Entry at Los Tomates to SH 4 Port Connector Road, south port entry. A distance of 11.1 miles in south-eastern Cameron County, Texas. Once the roadway is constructed it would be named East Loop (SH 32).

The proposed roadway would provide for variable roadway widths consisting of a four-lane divided roadway with shoulders in some sections to a six-lane divided roadway with shoulders in other sections.  In addition, a roadway overpass would be constructed at the intersection of SH 4 and FM 1419. East Loop would utilize portions of existing roadway rights-of-way when possible such as East Avenue, FM 1419 and SH 4 and in other sections would be entirely on new location.  Once constructed portions of East Avenue, FM 1419, and SH 4 would be re-designated as East Loop.

The proposed improvements would require an additional 249.8 acres of new roadway right-of-way.  In addition to the roadway a shared use (pedestrian and bicycle) path is proposed for the project in the urban (curb and gutter) sections of the roadway.  Bicycles would use the roadway shoulders and a 5 ft sidewalks would be provided for pedestrians in the rural open ditch sections.
