Description:

The EIS will assess the potential environmental impacts of the proposed Airfield Safety Enhancement Project at Tucson International Airport that includes the following components:  Construct a new center parallel taxiway and connecting taxiway system; a replacement Runway 11R-29L (proposed to be 11,000 feet long by 150 feet wide); acquisition of land for the runway object free area, taxiway object free area, runway safety area, and runway protection zone from U.S. Air Force Plant 44.  This land acquisition also includes relocation of various military installation assets to locations elsewhere on Plant 44; and installation of navigational aids and development and/or modification of associated arrival and departure procedures.  This proposed project also includes the release of airport land from federal obligations between the former East Hughes Access Road and newly constructed Aerospace Parkway.  A portion of this land would be sold at fair market value to the U.S. Air Force on behalf of the National Guard Bureau in support of the 162nd Wing at Arizona Air National Guard Base for a Munitions Storage Area and access road.
